The pitch

You inherit your father's pawn shop with the lease and the rent due on the first. Every Saturday the storage lots auction the units of people who stopped paying. You get one look from the doorway with a flashlight, then bid out loud against regulars who have their own money, their own rent, and a memory of how you treated them.

What is inside a unit follows who rented it: a contractor, an estate, a kid who moved out, a hoarder. Prices move with the season and with what you have flooded the market with. A full run takes a few hours and has several endings, decided by how you treated people.

How to play

  1. Shine the flashlight into the open unit. You get three looks per door.
  2. Bid, jump the bid, or pass.
  3. Haul what you win home and open the boxes one at a time.
  4. In the shop, put items on the floor, list them online, sell to the dealer, or pay for an appraisal. Customers haggle at the counter.
  5. Pay rent the first week of every month. Miss two and you are done.
