PYRENEES CHESS

The pitch

Every piece on the board is a Great Pyrenees. You choose which dog to send, and the dog decides where it goes: three times in four it follows its own plan, sometimes it takes its second idea, and one time in ten it chases a squirrel.

The rules are standard chess, refereed move by move, so a dog never makes an illegal move. It just might not make the one you wanted. You are the shepherd deciding which dog to trust.

How to play

1. Tap one of your dogs. Solid paw prints show the move it wants, faint paws its maybe, tiny paws every square a squirrel could pull it to.
2. Tap SEND to let it go.
3. The dog you sent last turn naps for a turn unless an enemy threatens it, so rotate the pack.
4. Tap the other pack's dogs to read their plans and see which of yours they are after.
5. For straight chess, turn on Steady dogs in Options and every dog does what it wants.
